Fresh finds -Stihl brushcutter- top finds of the summer

Last spring I was looking to find or possibly repair a midsized weed eater for my folks. They have an electric weedeater and a large brushcutter but nothing that is suitable for those in between jobs. Normally a person would just make do with the tools they have, but if you have an unlimited resource like the dump, then tools are easy to get.

I am leaning towards a buy nothing philosophy these days, as I can find almost anything I need for free. I have limited purchases to food, parts that fix things, and tools that fix things. Oh…and if we include the last five years, yes, I did go against my philosophy and buy a new mountain bike and a new snowboard (with dump money of course). Tools are something I could technically allow myself to buy, but as I was fixing two separate mid sized weedeaters, a brand new Stihl FS 40c was dropped off at the dump.

The cutter itself was a gift from a son-in-law that didn’t realize the “heavy” gas powered motor was too awkward for mother-in-law. Mother-in-law was looking for the place to put scrap motors and I said I would find a home for it.

My folks are the happy owners of a fine dumpfound mid sized brush cutter.

Other finds of the month include…

Winter stuff

A Burton snowboard and bindings.

A person desperate to move away from a cold climate is bound to leave behind cold weather clothes and hobbies. In the middle of summer no one wants to think about the freezing depths of winter so no one buys garage sale or used stuff online (I’m avoiding saying FB marketplace ’cause fuck that company).

Winter work boots and winter hiking boots.

Cleaned up (they were barely used anyway) and with new insoles they are almost new. It seems government workers barely use their workboots.

More as I remember…
